No Such Thing As "Once Saved, Always Saved", or “Unconditional Eternal Security”

“If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”

There is no such thing as “Once Saved, Always Saved", or,“Unconditional Eternal Security”. That is a false teaching, a lie that the devil is spreading and deceiving people with into believing that they can have sin in their life and still make it to heaven.

For one thing, salvation "is" conditional. Acts 2;38, says,
“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 2;38 is the New Testament plan of salvation. It is the new covenant, or agreement, that God has made with man by the blood and death of Jesus Christ. That is what the Lord was speaking of in Matthew 26:28, when He said, “For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”

This is how we are saved, if we, through faith in Jesus, turn to God in repentance, calling on the name of Jesus, believing and confessing that Jesus Christ is Lord, and that He died for you, and that God raised Him up from the dead; and confessing your sins to Him with a sincere repentive heart, asking Him to forgive you and save you, and be baptized (immersed) in water in the name of Jesus Christ; then God will forgive you, and wash away your sins, and God will give you the gift of the Holy Ghost (fill you with His Spirit), as He has promised, saying, “For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call” (Acts 2;39), and you will have eternal life and be a child of God.

This applies to every one, no exceptions, one plan for every one. “One Lord, one faith, one baptism”, Ephesians 4;5. If you need to repent, then repent. If you've repented but wasn’t baptized, then be baptized. If you were baptized differently, then get baptized by immersion in water in the name of Jesus Christ. If you’ve repented and didn’t receive the Holy Ghost with the sign of speaking with other tongues, then seek God for the Holy Ghost until you receive Him with the sign of speaking with tongues. Repentance and baptism are not against grace, they’re by the grace of God to receive forgiveness and cleansing of our sins. These are not our works, or the works of man, these are the works of God, who works salvation in us by grace unto eternal life by faith in Jesus. Faith, repentance, baptism, and the gift of the Holy Ghost all work together in God’s plan of salvation. But if we reject repentance or baptism, then we are not allowing God’s grace and salvation to work in us, but unbelief.

Secondly, sin separates us from God. That’s why Jesus came to offer Himsef as a sacrifice, out of love, to save us from our sins, and reconcile us to Himself. So we are commanded and expected by God to continue living a repented life, to separate ourselves from sin and the ungodliness of the world.

1 Peter 1;13 - 19, says,
“13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; 18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”

And in 2 Corinthins 6;16 - 18, it says,
“16… For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: ‘I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.’ 17 Therefore, ‘Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.’ 18 ‘I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty.”

“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” 2 Corinthians 7;1.

What if we sin? God wants us to grow in Him, becoming more and more Christ-like, as He works in us, purging out all sinfulness, changing and transforming us. He gives us power and grace to overcome temptation and the things of the world, but if we sin, then God’s love and grace is there to give us forgiveness, and to heal us, renew us, and pick us back up again. We just have to submit ourselves to God and go to Him in repentance, confessing our sins and asking forgiveness, as it is written, “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world”, and, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”, 1 John 2;1 & 2, and 1;9.

“Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” James 4;4 - 10.

Now in John 15;6, when Jesus says, “If anyone does not abide in Me”, He’s referring to those who don’t continue in Him by living according to the word of God in holiness, but have sin in their life that they don’t repent of and do away with. God is very merciful and longsuffering, and will be gracious in trying to bring them back, but if they never do, then eventually, these are the ones that are cast out, and thrown into the fire and burned.

In Matthew 7;21 - 23, Jesus says, "21 Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Are these believers? Yes, they are. They were saved at one point, but they have sin in their life, they are practicing lawlessness, and are rejected by the Lord. That’s why even the apostle Paul said, “I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway”, 1 Corinthians 9;27. So you can be saved but lose your salvation because of sin. Also see Ezekiel 18:20 - 32.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”, Romans 6;23. So we’re given a choice; sin, or eternal life through Jesus. We can’t have both.

“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10;31.

“Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” 2 Timothy 2:19.

So you can see that “Unconditional Eternal Security”, or “Once Saved Always Saved (no matter what)”, is contrary to the Bible, and is a doctrine of the devil. And that we can lose our salvation by being unfaithful and disobedient to God by living in sin.

“If you love Me, keep My commandments.” John 14;15.

"For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?... We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen." 1 John 5;3 - 5 and 18 - 21.

So those who love God and are born of God will keep God's commandments and live by His word, and will reject a life of sin, and will overcome sin and the things of the world by their faith.
